Dear Patrons & Patient Champions,
On behalf of the International Patients’ Union (IPU), I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for taking time on a weekend to attend the IPU Conference 2024. Your presence, valuable contributions, insights, and engagement mean a lot for moving the needle from a supplier-driven healthcare system to a need-based care system. Your presence has significantly enriched our discussions and understanding of the ground-level issues and will undoubtedly propel our mission forward. As the first movement of patients, your joining has strengthened our resolve.
I am excited to inform you about several innovative initiatives that are set to transform patient care and healthcare delivery.
- We launched a new feature for rating doctors, hospitals, and government schemes, providing transparency and promoting excellence in healthcare services. So, you can share your views and rate the providers and government schemes through the Patients Union App that is available on both, Android and iOS.
- We will provide authentic information about drugs through our tie-up with India’s premier institution, Bombay College of Pharmacy. You can post your queries on the app directly and the team at the Bombay College of Pharmacy will provide you with the desired information.
- Recognizing patients’ pivotal role in healthcare, we will introduce a direct adverse drug reporting feature accessible through the Patients Union app over the next few weeks. This tool empowers patients to report adverse drug reactions directly to the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, Government of India, facilitating a proactive approach to healthcare monitoring.
- Free Consultations: Over the next few weeks, we will offer free teleconsultations in collaboration with the eSanjeevani platform, making healthcare more accessible to everyone.
- We will launch ’The Voices Project’. All the patient videos will move to this project and if you are registered on the Patients Union app, you can share the videos with our team.
- We also received a sponsorship to help needy patients, and are launching Project FAITH (Financial Assistance and Intervention for Treatment and Health). If you wish to support this initiative, please write to me at founder@patientsunion.org
I want to inform you that a comprehensive report based on our deliberations will be submitted to the NITI Aayog and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). It will highlight the critical issues discussed and the collective insights gained during our conference.
We aim to give patients a ‘voice’ and the ‘power’, enabling them to be a formidable force before the industry and government. These initiatives will significantly contribute to this vision of empowering patients and carers.

This is an App solely dedicated to patients. Through this App, we want to make the healthcare journey easier for them. We aim to create the largest community of empowered and well-informed patients.
- We have one common feed for all, and 27 separate communities related to different areas of healthcare. Patients can initiate discussions, can talk about their problems, ask a question, give their inputs towards policy development, or connect with other fellow patients to better understand their disease condition. Healthcare professionals will be able to share useful resources and cater to questions asked by patients. They will also be encouraged to initiate discussions and give policy inputs.
- A dedicated resource section will be on the app, enlisting plethora of resources (both video and written) of different organizations. This will be a one-stop-shop for healthcare resources that are available in the country.
- We have enlisted all the central government welfare schemes related to healthcare on our app to give easy access to our users.
- We have multilingual support and voice recording feature to make the app more accessible for all.
- On the Patients’ Union App, we have various healthcare professionals like doctors, policy makers, psychologists, counsellors, nurses, etc who are here to help patients navigate their healthcare journey.
Everyone. We all have been patients at some point in our lives, and even if we are not one right now, we must know someone close to us who is a patient. We are always a caregiver for someone, if not a patient. The term ‘patient’ is often correlated to despair and hopelessness, but we must always remember that it is not a permanent state of affairs, but as long as we are one, we need to be well-informed, and we must feel in-control of the situation at hand. It is only possible when we speak about such things in a community space. The Patients’ Union App is here to facilitate this movement.
Healthcare professionals can’t register on their own volition. They need to fill a form first. This form will be scrutinized by the IPU Team and then upon receiving a clearance, an account will be created by the admin. This is to ensure credibility of such professionals and to filter out quacks so that only authentic information reaches the patients and caregivers on our platform.
No, IPU is not just limited to an App. When we say that IPU is ‘The Change Initiative’ we mean it. We organize disease-specific workshops, webinars, regional meetings and an annual conference dedicated to patients, where we pass on the mic to them. We believe that the groundwork is of utmost importance if we aim to reach the grassroot level.
Currently we do not have e-consultations on our app.

We are taking all necessary steps to keep your data safe. We constantly update our data security measures and we are moving towards HIPAA compliance. We have cybersecurity experts on our advisory board to help us with this.
No, the Patients’ Union App is free for all. There are no hidden charges and all services on the app are free.
IPU does not compensate anyone on the app. It is completely volunteer based work. We urge all healthcare professionals to take out a little time from their busy schedules to engage with patients and caretakers on the app and provide help wherever possible.
